How to use this tool

  1. 1Enter annual electricity consumption (kWh).
  2. 2Enter floor area and select the unit (sq ft or sq m).
  3. 3Optionally enter annual electricity spend to compute $/area.
  4. 4Calculate and compare across sites.

What the results mean

EUI lets you compare sites of different sizes on an apples-to-apples basis.

EUI should be interpreted alongside: operating hours, climate zone, occupancy intensity, tenant vs landlord control.

Beginner rule: Use EUI as a screening tool, not a final verdict.

Common pitfalls

  • Using partial-year kWh as "annual"
  • Comparing EUI across totally different building types without context
  • Not clarifying whether area includes common areas, parking, or only conditioned space
